In our journey to bring the best Italian food anywhere in the world we were lucky to meet Acetaia Malpighi and their amazing products!
We met them near Modena, where the Estate “Del Cigno”, owned by the Malpighi family, is located.
This magic place, visited by 22 thousand people every year to discover the vineyards and the Ancient “Acetaia”, is still the heart of the brand and the place where the Malpighi family produces its precious vinegar.
Accompanied by expert guides, we discovered the accurate job required to produce this rare vinegar and we had a chance to see the family treasure: over 2800 wooden barrels, one of which dates back to Napoleon Bonaparte’s times!
Balsamic Vinegar - in Italian Aceto Balsamico - is one of the incredible treasures that made Italy famous around the world: there are three protected “brands” of balsamic vinegar: Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Reggio Emilia, and Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. This vinegar can only be produced in the area of the cities of Modena and Reggio Emilia which makes ir so rare and precious.
Acetaia Malpighi is located near Modena where Pietro Malpighi started a small production of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena in 1850. For 160 years, tradition and production secrets have been passed down through Pietro, Augusto, Maria (89 years old) and Ermes. Today Massimo, who represents the 5th generation of the family, is the president of Acetaia Malpighi.
